Healing Properties of sweetners and spices

HONEY & CINNAMON

Our ancestors for thousands of years recognized the healing properties of honey and cinnamon. Our Grandmother used them to help heal childhood ailments. Today, western scientists affirm that honey and cinnamon can cure many diseases. Honey does not age but I believe there is a more potent potential during the first six months after the bees extracts the nectar from the flower. The good news for us, though is that honey does NOT harm diabetic patients when taken in the correct dosage.

Ayurveda, India’s 5,000 year old science of Life recognizes the healing value of both honey and cinnamon. In prior articles, I discussed the energy constitutions of the human body. Select foods either aggravated or enhanced the energy systems. Therefore, Instead of banning honey or cinnamon completely for specific physical structure, they recommend adjusted quantities for ailments pertaining to VATA, PITTA, or KAPHA constituion. Ayurvedic specialists state:

HONEY

Indians and Egyptians utilize honey for a variety of conditions. One way for promoting healing is applying a poultice directly to wounds. Being a volatile sweet in the presence of heat, it breaks down when used externally. It is best, therefore, to use honey cool or at room temperature. When the honey is young--less than six months old--it is healing to the PITTA constitution. Kapha people consume honey best. Vata individuals benefit from occasional use since its dryness aggravates the Vata energy when over used.

CINNAMON

In many cultures, cinnamon is used in curry or main dishes instead of deserts as we do in Western Society. Cinnamon warms and sweetens and is an effective digestive aid. Cinnamon is valuable for all three energy constitutions. Just as honey does, cinnamon also has warming properties. Therefore, PITTA constitutions use Cinnamon occasionally.

Cancer, Acidic or Alkaline

Basic Points about Cancer

Adjusting our Nutrition to Alkaline

If we know that Cancer is either acidic or Alkaline, does it do us any good?

Basic Facts

Cancer is a topic people do not want to talk about and yet they are drawn to knowing more about it. In the next several articles, I will give you information supplied by medical experts. These articles will review specific and general nutrition issues with Cancer.

Most physicians approach cancer with drugs and harsh treatments. They are now acknowledging that what we eat feeds the body AND cancer cells. The secret is that we want to STARVE the cancer cells and feed our immune system so that it can do the job it was intended to do.

We can adjust our eating patterns to feed our body and start the cancer cells.

I am sure you remember your Grandmother telling you to “Starve a cold and Feed a fever.”

You may have a few cancer cells already in your body but you don't have to get cancer. Now we can tell our children that you “Deprive the cells of sugar and milk. To Feed the cells eat vegetables.”

Future articles will explain how cancer cells grow and how nutrition keeps your immune system healthy. But first...

Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard Tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.

The Alkaline Diet

Alkaline Diet

Principles of Alkalinity

Most people are not aware of the importance of the Alkaline Diet. People take antacids instead of Bio-Enzymes or adjusting what we eat to an Alkaline Diet. Our blood is slightly alkaline, with a normal pH level of between 7.35 and 7.45. The theory behind the alkaline diet is that our diet should reflect this pH level (as it did in the past) and be slightly alkaline. An alkaline diet is a diet that emphasizes, to a varying degree, fresh fruit, vegetables, roots and tubers, nuts, and legumes. Almost all foods that we eat, after being digested, absorbed, and metabolized, release either an acid or an alkaline base (bicarbonate) into blood.

Tips for alkalinizing your Diet

1. Eat lots of vegetables and fruits. Most are alkalinizing.

2. Drink the juice of half a lemon or lime in water as a beverage.

3. Eat 1 cup of alkalinizing greens daily (dale, collards, mustard greens or rapini) Rapini, is also known as Broccoli Rabe, part of the turnip family.

4. Learn to make a miso broth (1 tsp of miso dissolved in one cup of hot, not bo8iling, water.

5. Make blender drinks using alkaline juices, green powdered supplements and fruits.

6. Choose fish and lamp over beef and chicken for less acid forming animal protein.

7. Use olive oil as it is less acid forming than other vegetable oils.

8. Use buffered Vitamin C to alkalinze the system.

In following articles we discuss the history, health benefits and why people try to impletement an alkaline diet.

Cardiovascular Disease and high Cholesterol

Cardiovascular disease and high cholesterol seem to go hand-in-hand. While there are many medical approaches to cardiovascular disease, one of the key ways is lowering your high cholesterol. When you choose your diet and antioxidants, look for products that lower serum cholesterol by reducing the absorption and production of dietary cholesterol.

You need to find something that

1. Helps to block re-absorption of cholesterol in the intestinal tract.

2. Helps to block absorption of cholesterol which comes directly from food after digestion.

3. Reduces the cholesterol produced by the liver.

4. Enhances enzymatic breakdown and removal of bad cholesterol.

Both cardiovascular disease and high cholesterol are often called “Silent Killers”. When our body’s cardiovascular system is in trouble, we need to help. Recently we discovered a solution that is natural, safe and clinically proven. It is already FDA approved. The scientists presented three results

1. It reduces bad cholesterol (LDL) by up to 35% in only eight weeks.

2. It improves good cholesterol levels (HDL) by an average 29% in the same eight weeks.

3. It also reduces triglyceride levels an average of 40%.

I am reticent about citing percentages but these results are consistent. Cardiovascular disease and high cholesterol are insidious partners in our western society.
Again, I want to stress that we do not intend to promote commercial products through these articles but when we find something that is effective, we want to share it. For more information, go to one of our website: http://www.folkherbwisdom.com or http://nutroinix.com/helpingyou .
